Gyratec XIV carries the authentic sound of a cult line of passive EQ units. Our rendition of this classic features the same parallel filter topology as its predecessor while bringing its versatility and potential to a new level. Gyratec XIV features an extra mono mode, making it suitable for any sound source or application.
What makes the Gyratec XIV both a powerful mastering equalizer and a precise surgical tool is the unique behavior of the variable Q setting. When a band is set to boost, the Q is rather wide. When set to cut, the sharpness of the filter becomes much more narrow and aggressive, approaching a notch in extreme settings. When used on stereo sources, the Gyratec circuit topology subtly widens the stereo image. When applied on a Mix Bus that effect carves more space in the mix without adding any audible artifacts or phase distortion.
The hardware original behind Gyratec XIV was unique for its parallel G14 filter design which allows for a set of inductors and capacitors to switch in and out of the circuit combined with a tube-based makeup gain/output stage.
One of the unique qualities of this unit is the behavior of the variable “Q” setting. When a band is set to “boost”, the “Q” is rather wide. When set to “cut” however, the sharpness of the filter becomes much more narrow and aggressive, approaching a notch in extreme settings. That makes the Gyratec XIV both a powerful mastering equalizer and a precise surgical tool.
