As the name Motions implies, these patches focus on dynamic movement and evolving textures, offering dense lo-fi soundscapes that are expressive and playable. The sounds in Motions are built from a variety of recorded sources, including guitar loops, cassette loops, notes from a Moog Matriarch, and modulated Eurorack phrases. These samples were looped and stretched across the keyboard, so playing wide, spread-out chords results in a layering effect, with the same sample playing back at different rates, creating rich and evolving textures.
Motions also includes Random Generator patches that use Ableton’s random LFO device with an arpeggiator to create generative-style soundscapes. This allows users to play a chord and generate evolving, randomized arpeggios, as heard in the Nylon Arp demo. Each of the 50 presets includes 2-5 Macro Variations, allowing you to load sound variations within each patch via the Macro Variation list on the left side of the instrument.
After recording and looping the samples, custom Ableton effects racks such as a tape emulator, a repitched quad delay effect and a shimmer reverb. These effects enhance the unique timbres of the samples, offering further creative manipulation and lo-fi sound shaping.
To use the Motions patches, you will need a copy of Ableton Live 11 or later. These devices will not work on older versions of Ableton Live.
The Motions devices work with all editions of Live 11, including Lite, Intro, and Standard.
