Ghost Piano

Ghost Piano is about transforming the piano into a sonic laboratory. To capture its eerie character, we ventured deep inside the instrument, using unconventional tools to strike, scrape, and manipulate the strings — unlocking raw, organic textures you’d never expect from a piano.

Here are a few highlights from the sessions:

• Finger plucks and scrapes give you delicate, intimate textures that feel fragile and close.

• A back massager became a mechanical tremolo engine, creating shimmering movement across the strings.

• Super Ball mallets dragged across the strings produced deep groans and resonant effects that feel like something alive is trapped inside the piano.

• Glass bottles created ringing harmonics and percussive overtones that slice right through a mix.

• Guitar picks gave us sharp, precise attacks perfect for tension and stingers.

• Rubber and soft mallets allowed us to mute the strings and bring out darker, rounder timbres.

• Drum sticks gave us crisp, rhythmic textures with a bit more bite.

• An electric shaver buzzing on the strings created metallic, unnerving drones that are perfect for horror and sci-fi.

• An Ebow produced ghostly sustains and textures that bloom in unexpected ways.

Patches and Folders  - Ghost Piano features a curated collection of various sampler types including DFD and TMP. We’ve organized the 167 patches (343 including TMP patches) into various subfolders to maximize ease and accessibility:

Layer Mixer:

• Ghost Piano is programmed to utilize the Layer Mixer on the Main Page/Page 1 of our engine allowing you to easily customize the gain, pan, and tune of the layers - this feature is especially useful for our various MOD patches. Note that this library is programmed to feature the first 2 layer mixers and does not utilize the 3rd layer channel.

Use the MOD Wheel!

• Using the MOD wheel in a MOD FX patch will allow you to go from a less/not affected version of a sample into an effects-laden version. For any non MOD FX patches, use the MOD wheel to control filter cutoff.

• Discover various types of the MOD FX feature like MOD PITCH and MOD MORPH

  • MOD MORPH: toggle between one sample into a totally different one.

  • MOD PITCH: toggle between one sample into a differently pitched sample.

• Powered by our custom Triumph Audio Engine.

Recorded exclusively inside a baby grand and upright, Ghost Piano explores the instrument’s hidden resonances—struck, scraped, plucked, and attacked—then reshaped into playable tonal patches, eerie events and fx, drones, pads, loops, and pulses.
