This month, our Label of the Month is Cycles and Spots, and we interview Rene Breitbarth, to explore more behind the brand.
Cycles and Spots are a loop and sounds company founded by an international group of both older experienced musicians and fresh new talent to deliver strong unique releases for beginner and advanced producers. The focus lies on quality and ease of use to deliver the most entertaining products.
What first got you into sample pack and Reaktor Instrument production?
I was a music producer and a DJ long before I got into sample and instrument production. After getting a little bored of spending my time in clubs, I realised my key passion was being in the studio and experimenting with different sounds, to constantly produce something new. This is where I really found a love for music production and sound design, which naturally led me to the creation of our Reaktor instruments.
This for me is the perfect essence, and it allows me to be experimental, whilst doing something I absolutely love.
How would you describe
your sound?
I would describe our sound as being forward-thinking, however, it must always be rooted in established foundations.
What inspires your sound?
Our sound is very much inspired by new and old music and sounds, the sounds get mixed subconsciously in my head and come out as the almost finished sound!
Where is your favourite place/the most unusual place you have heard one of your sounds?
Our Reaktor instruments are being used to teach sound design and music production in a school in Brazil which is great. What is rather weird is finding basic construction templates just being looped to 6 minutes and released with no additional input, obviously for commercial reasons. But that is not forbidden of course.
Have you done any collaborations?
Although collaborations can lead to a unique output, I have always been the no-compromise guy.
What’s a quote you live by?
Just go with the flow. This is represented in living the nomadic lifestyle and also in my audio productions.
What is next for Cycles and Spots?
The answer to this is very much related to my previous one as for me, spontaneity is key. I’m sure it will be something exciting (at least for me) otherwise I simply wouldn’t do it.
Rene is a German DJ and producer. He is one of the founders of Treibstoff. As well as making music production tools, Rene also writes music for games - with his music being featured on Rogue Star Rescue, a game available on Steam.
